THE WORLD of today is an uncertain world. Television, radio and newspapers daily bring stories of horror and violence right into our homes. No wonder many of us are anxious and fearful of what tomorrow might bring.
It doesn't help that the individual seems to have little opportunity to influence the course of events. How can we make sense of such a puzzling and perplexing world?
One way of easing our perplexity at the state of the world is to view it through the eyes of faith. Here we are taught to view the world as God‘s world - as a world which he has created and which he loves, whatever people do through greed or ambition to spoil things for everyone.
Faith teaches us to count our many blessings - and offer the result in praise to God. This is one purpose of our Harvest Festivals.
For faith teaches us that, whatever our material circumstances, we are rich in the love of God - love shown in the life and teaching and death on the cross of Jesus his Son - love confirmed when Jesus was raised from death.
At Harvest time we give thanks for many blessings - both material and spiritual - and we find comfort and strength to live our lives according to the teachings of faith. And we pray that when the day comes, the merciful and generous God will gather us also into his heavenly harvest store.
