Bishop Enoch

The Revd Canon Enoch Kayeeye, the founder and director-general of African International Christian Ministry (AICM) whose appointment as Bishop of North Kiva Diocese in the Democratic Republic of Congo was reported in the last issue of The Fisherman, was finally consecrated as bishop on Sunday 22nd October 2006.

Photographs of the consecration can be found of the AICM website at www.aicm.org.uk.

St Andrew’s Choir

The choir contributed a suitable anthem to the principal service at St Andrew’s, Swavesey, on Remembrance Sunday.

Christmas carols are now being rehearsed in readiness for the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols on the Sunday after Christmas. As this is on 31st December this year, the time of the service has been changed to 3.30pm at the request of those involved in New Year’s Eve engagements later in the evening. Please come along and support the service at this revised time.

The choir will also be at Conington on 17th December at 6.30pm for the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in St Mary’s Church.

The Children’s Society

This year’s Christingle Service at St Andrew’s, Swavesey, was held on Sunday 3rd December. There was a good congregation and seventy-six Christingles were distributed.

Thanks are due to Alison, Stephanie and Vanessa Hart, Jack and Tom Hendry and Freda Wake who assembled the Christingles. Also to the bell ringers, the music group, Helen and Colin Pheysey for supplying the oranges and to the Sunday School who collected £62.68 in their candles. The collection totalled £70.00, giving a final total of £132.68.

Runaways are the focus of Christingle again - the Society believes that it is crucial to support children as early as possible as well as continuing to campaign for and provide safe places for them to go - almost a quarter of children who run away because they are ill-treated or thrown out of home sleep rough. One example of the usefulness of this work: through family mediation work in Devon, 76% of children seeking help were able to return home.

Many thanks to everyone for supporting the Society. A Happy Christmas and Peaceful New Year to you all.

Dick Lingham on CD

A CD has been produced of favourite organ pieces played on the Swavesey organ by Dick Lingham. “Jesu Joy of man’s desiring”, “Halleluia Chorus”, “Grand March from Aida” and many more. Price £10 (including postage) with all profits going to the Pick’s Disease Support Group charity. Dick was diagnosed with this dementia in 1993 but due to the mercifully slow progress of his disease has managed to continue as organist and choirmaster for the last 13 years.

Please send orders to dicknlyn.lingham@ntlworl.com .

BATS Crib Service

There will be a Baby and Toddler Crib Service on the Thursday before Christmas at 10.30am at St Andrew’s, Swavesey. Once again we aim to make the Christmas story come alive for the very young - and not so young!

Sunday Sanctuary

The Sunday Sanctuary service begins its second year on 18th February. We have already explored worship in a number of styles, including those of the Taizéé and Iona communities and even the tradition of mediaeval plainchant.

If you would like to experience a Fresh Expression of Worship, why not join us at St Andrew‘s, Swavesey, on the third Sunday of the month at 6.30pm? (N.B., there is no Sunday Sanctuary service in January.)
