Sunday 30th September 2007 is ‘Back to Church Sunday’.
All across the country there are many people who used to worship God on a regular basis but for one reason or another are not now part of the regular worshipping community.
‘Back to Church Sunday’ is the day when, along with 1,700 other parishes in 19 dioceses, we are inviting everyone to come ‘back to church’ and make a fresh start with the worship of God.
‘Back to Church Sunday’ began in 2004 in the Diocese of Manchester and has since spread right across the Church of England. This is the first year that the Diocese of Ely has joined in.
The Bishop of Manchester, the Rt Revd Nigel McCulloch, says “inviting people into church is as important as taking the Gospel out to them” With three million people across the country ready to consider a personal invitation, “the growth of Back to Church Sunday could prove one of the most effective aspects of the Church‘s witness.”
Whether or not you used to come to church and perhaps don’t do so as often now, or have never been a regular worshipper, you will be assured of receiving a warm welcome at your parish church on this and every Sunday.
