St Andrew’s Choir

Having contributed an anthem to the Remembrance Sunday service, the members of St Andrew‘s Choir are now busy with rehearsals for the Christmas Carol Festivals. The singers hope you will support them at the service of Nine Lessons and Carols on Sunday 30th December at 6.30pm. There will be seasonal refreshments after the service.

The choir will also be singing at the Conington Carol Service on Sunday 23rd December, also at 6.30pm.

The Children’s Society

This year’s Christingle service at St Andrew’s, Swavesey, was held on Sunday 2nd December. As usual it was very enjoyable and well attended. Eighty Christingles were distributed. When the candles are lit and we sing ‘Away in a Manger’ the spirit of Christmas is definitely present.

Thanks are due to Jackie Few, Stephanie and Vanessa Hart, Justin Looper, Caroline, Daniel and Matthew Stevens and Freda Wake who assembled the Christingles. Also to the bellringers who bid us to the service, to the music group who add so much to our enjoyment with their playing, to Helen and Colin Pheysey for supplying the oranges and to the Sunday School for bringing their candles of money to swell the final total collected to £162.12 - a record collection.

This money will go towards the Society’s vital work with children whose childhoods have been stolen - the Society believes every child deserves a good childhood. It will help children who face danger after being forced to run away from home, discrimination or disadvantage because of disability and young refugees fleeing from war.

Many thanks to everyone for supporting the work of the Society. A Happy Christmas and Peaceful New Year to you all.

BATS Crib Service

There will be a Baby and Toddler Crib Service at St Andrew’s, Swavesey on on 20th December, the Thursday before Christmas. The service begins at 10.30am.

Once again we aim to make the Christmas story come alive for the very young - and not so young!

Lent Course 2008

With Easter coming so early next year, it’s already time to get the Lent Course meetings in the diary. The course will run on the first five Wednesdays of Lent beginning on 13th February at 8.00pm. Check for the meeting venues on posters or the website at www.honeyhill.org.

Confirmation Courses 2008

Confirmation Courses for both adults and young people will begin in January 2008 and look forward to a Confirmation Service later in the spring.

Confirmation involves taking on for yourself the promises that were made on your behalf by your godparents at your baptism. But if you haven’t been baptised, this is no problem. There is always an opportunity to be baptised in the confirmation service itself.

Joining a course does not commit you from the outset to being confirmed at the end of the course. A confirmation course should be seen as a voyage of exploration towards possible confirmation. Please ask for details from the Vicar/Rector.

Cathedral Passes

Those whose names appear on the Church Electoral Rolls of their parishes may apply for a pass giving them free admission to the Cathedral at Ely on days when there is normally a charge.

Applications must be made through a churchwarden. The passes are now valid for four years rather than just for a single year as in the past. See your local churchwarden for details.

Sunday Sanctuary

The Sunday Sanctuary fellowship resumes worshipping in contemplative style on Sunday 17th February 2008.

If you would like to experience a Fresh Expression of Worship, in music and silence, with textures and with video, why not join us at St Andrew’s, Swavesey, on the third Sunday of the month at 6.30pm?

Note that there is no service in January because of the Christingle Service at Fen Drayton at 4.30pm.
