AICM Uganda - New Director’s Visit to UK

Come & meet him at Gill and Mike’s on Wednesday 9th April

Our Benefice has supported AICM (African International Christian Ministry) for a significant number of years through annual donations from the Parochial Church Council of St Andrew’s Church, Swavesey, the ‘Charity Christmas Card Days’ held in Conington Church and through donations from individual members of churches in the benefice.

The founder of AICM was Canon Enoch Kayayee who recently moved to North Kivu in the Congo as a Bishop and was succeeded by his son Mr Timothy Twikrize as Director, AICM Uganda.

AICM runs a Vocational Training College with a long list of practical courses, a community-based Healthcare Programme mainly for the Batwa pigmies, based in the local hills, a sponsored Education Programme in a local school, and various other initiatives within the community.

The Friends of AICM is a voluntary organisation in this country, which supports the work of AICM in Uganda and has no paid staff, no overheads and few expenses.

In early April, Timothy is visiting us in the UK for a month to see as many of the Friends as possible, as well as the organisations he deals with on a regular basis.

He will be staying with Gill and Mike Henderson at 1 Church Lane, Hemingford Grey, on the nights of 8th and 9th April 2008.

On Wednesday 9th there will be a social evening from 8.00pm at Gill and Mike’s cottage for anyone would like to meet and talk with him, see videos of the work in Uganda and hear about our future plans from the Chairman of the Friends, Canon Trevor Williams.

Our patron John Sentamu, Archbishop of York unfortunately had a prior engagement! He will be with us in spirit.

For further details and directions to cottage, please ring 01480 466101.

How YOU can help to highlight Timothy’s Visit and boost our vehicle appeal

As a highlight to his visit, we, the Friends of AICM, are trying to raise funds for a second-hand twin cab 4 by 4 vehicle. (In Uganda this would transport up to 30 people!!!) This is desperately needed by staff in Kabale, their base, to enable them to access the rural communities, including the many Batwa people, amongst whom they work. Timothy has brought this need to our notice many times, since he became Director and we would love to be able to give him this money to take back with him to Kabale as a special gift from his friends in the UK.

Please consider contributing to this appeal. Our target is £5000 and we’re roughly half way there at the moment.

Donations, however small, cash or cheques will be gratefully received.

These can be given to Revd John Yule, or any of the churchwardens, to Gill Henderson or sent to the treasurer:
